About the The UK Directory for Garden Shopping Online

Our Aims

..to be the recommended first port of call for any consumer looking to buy plants or gardening products over the Internet.

..to include as many websites as possible which are based in whole or in part in the UK, sells to UK consumers and can deliver to substantially the whole of the UK (exceptions: Northern Ireland, Scottish Highlands & Islands).

Contact Details

If you have any feedback on this site, or would like to contact us for any other reason, please email us at merchant_desk@garden-marketplace.co.uk

..to provide visitors with more detailed information about website businesses than can be found on search engines or price comparison sites. We believe that UK consumers are becoming more discriminating in where they choose to shop over the Internet. This is why we ask for information such as address, customer telephone number, delivery prices etc.

..to select "Six of the Best Websites" for each of the categories in order to avoid users being swamped by long lists of merchants.

Financing

Like any other website the The Directory for Online Garden Shopping has taken a substantial investment of resources to set up and will clearly have ongoing maintenance costs. As is it important that as many qualifying websites are included as possible we will always ensure that listings are free. We will also not charge our visitors a subscription fee. However in order to generate funds we will carry some advertisements which we believe to be relevant to our visitors.

"Six of the Best" Listings

The "Six of the Best Listings are selected by our team of reviewers. Sites in order to qualify for consideration must

  • have a UK address published on their site (or provided to us on their submission form)
  • not be under construction or appear to be substantially out of date
  • have details of their products available on their website (ie not simply a mail order catalogue which needs to be applied for)

Sites meeting these criteria will then be judged on

  • completeness of information provided on site (or submission form)
  • professionalism and credibility
  • usability of site
  • range and/or uniqueness of products

No consideration is taken of whether sites support the Directory in any way. Although it may increase our income in the short term to do this, it would damage the value of the site to visitors and hence damage our long term growth.

Getting Listed

If you have a website and you sell garden plants or products online, and you would like to be listed in the 2008 directory (and yes it is genuinely free), then you will find more information on our suppliers pages.
